Cuenca will mark its 469th anniversary with a national wooden car competition and a traditional soapbox derby on April 12, bringing racing action to the streets of the city.
The events, organized by EBS Gestores Culturales, will take place along Calle Larga and the Todosantos descent. Registration is free and open to anyone interested in participating.
The national competition will kick off first at 3:00 PM, featuring two categories:
- Ball bearing
- Inflated tire
The race will begin at the intersection of Larga and Benigno Malo streets, continue down Todosantos Street, pass along 12 de Abril Avenue, and finish on Federico Malo Street.
At 4:00 PM, the soapbox derby will follow, with participants racing downhill along the Todosantos slope.
Organizers said winners in each category will receive T-shirts, trophies, medals, and cash prizes.
