A burst water main on Cuzco Street has disrupted service in parts of Cuenca, prompting emergency water distribution by tanker trucks while repair work continues near the Monay–IESS roundabout.

The damage occurred during construction of the interchange in the area, leading to both a rupture in the pipeline and the formation of a sinkhole. As a result, the road remains closed, cutting off a key connection between the highway and Avenida 24 de Mayo.

To maintain water supply, ETAPA EP activated a contingency plan for Thursday, April 30, with tanker deliveries scheduled across several affected neighborhoods starting early in the morning.

Water distribution points include Paccha parish center, Bellos Horizontes, El Valle Central Square, Santa Marianita del Vergel, and multiple residential areas such as La Campiña, Lagunas del Sol, and Santa Sofía. Most deliveries begin at 8:30 a.m., with additional service continuing into the morning.

Residents in impacted areas are relying on these tanker deliveries as crews work to repair the damaged infrastructure.

Traffic in the zone is also being redirected. Light vehicles are being routed through Guadalajara Street near the Bilingual Educational Unit, while heavier vehicles must use Avenida de las Américas.

Authorities are urging drivers to plan ahead and proceed with caution in the area as both repair work and traffic adjustments remain in effect.
