The University of Cuenca has released its schedule of cultural activities for May, featuring concerts, dance workshops, literary gatherings, exhibitions, and audiovisual installations running through May 29.

The month begins with a symphonic tribute to Juan Luis Guerra performed by the University Symphony Orchestra and Polyphonic Choir from May 7 to 9 at the Carlos Cueva Tamariz Theater. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students.

On May 9, the ‘One Book, One Wine’ project will host ‘Latitudes of Literature: A Journey Through Latin America’ at Casa Rivera starting at 10:30 a.m., offering a space for reading and discussion.

A contemporary dance workshop for teenagers led by performing artist Nathaly Castro Reyes begins May 12 at Casa de los Arcos. The eight-session program will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

German musician Robert Aut will perform a free solo piano concert on May 13 at the Carlos Cueva Tamariz Theater beginning at 8:00 p.m. He will also give a master class the previous day at the Yanuncay campus at 10:00 a.m.

On May 15, the University of Cuenca Symphony Orchestra will present a concert featuring young soloists at the Carlos Cueva Tamariz Theater at 8:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The exhibition ‘Mediation Logs – Pedagogy in Process’ will close on May 20 with an event at the University Museum at 7:00 p.m. That same day, Casa de los Arcos will host an open class featuring bhakti yoga, energetic dance, tai chi, and sound therapy beginning at 10:00 a.m. Prior registration is required.

The UCuenca Polyphonic Choir will perform a free choral concert at the Balzay Auditorium on May 21 at 7:00 p.m.

The month concludes May 29 with the opening of Francisco Ordóñez’s interactive audiovisual installation ‘Aestus’ at Casa de los Arcos at 6:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The University Museum exhibition halls are open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Casa Rivera Creative CoWorking operates from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., while the exhibition hall at Casa de los Arcos is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
