Two suspects were arrested in Cuenca after allegedly attempting to carry out a fraud using scopolamine in the 9 de Octubre market area.
The individuals are accused of approaching a victim under the pretense of asking for help reading an address written on a piece of paper. Authorities believe this tactic was intended to expose the person to a substance and impair their judgment.
According to preliminary information, the suspects then told the victim they had a winning lottery ticket and demanded the person’s belongings in exchange for the supposed prize.

Municipal agents responded to the alert and detained both individuals at the scene. They were transferred to the local Community Police Unit, where procedures are underway to clarify the case.
