Health authorities removed 1,256 medical devices from a distributor in Cuenca after detecting multiple irregularities during a routine inspection.
The operation uncovered dental equipment in non-compliant condition. Among the items, 38 had already expired, while the remaining devices lacked the required sanitary registration, placing them outside current health regulations.
Officials warned that using uncertified or expired medical supplies can carry serious risks. These include infections, failed treatments, and the potential worsening of a patient’s condition, particularly when the devices are used in clinical procedures.
All identified products were immediately seized to prevent further distribution. Authorities also ordered the closure of the establishment after determining it did not meet the necessary health and safety standards to operate.
The case highlights ongoing concerns around the circulation of unregulated medical supplies and the importance of strict oversight to protect patient safety.
