A person reported missing in Cajas National Park was found safe and evacuated following a coordinated search operation in Cuenca.
The alert was received on the night of May 2, prompting an immediate response. Emergency teams were deployed to the La Toreadora sector as part of a joint effort involving multiple units.
During the search, rescuers were able to establish phone contact with the individual. Using location details and environmental references, teams identified the person’s position in the Llaviucu sector.
The individual was confirmed to be in good condition and was escorted safely to a main road without complications.
While the operation was underway, additional units remained in the Quinuas sector awaiting four companions who had entered the area independently. Perimeter control was maintained to reduce the risk of further incidents.
Cajas National Park is known for its challenging terrain, including moorland landscapes, frequent fog, and rapidly changing weather conditions that can disorient even experienced visitors.
Emergency services recommend planning routes in advance, informing others before entering, and maintaining communication while traveling through high-altitude areas near Cuenca.
