A major landslide has forced the closure of the Cuenca–Molleturo–El Empalme highway, cutting off a key route between the provinces of Azuay and Guayas.
The collapse occurred at kilometer 92, where a large mass of earth, along with trees and debris, completely blocked the roadway. The incident was first reported on the afternoon of April 16, with the closure continuing into the following day.
