Elecaustro has signed cooperation agreements to carry out road maintenance projects in the parishes of Checa and Chiquintad, aiming to improve access and support nearby communities around the Machángara Hydroelectric Complex.
The agreements, valued at $250,000, allocate $125,000 to each parish. The work is expected to run for 365 days and will focus on maintaining key routes used both by residents and for operational access to the hydroelectric facilities.
• $250,000 total investment across two parishes
• More than 7,500 residents expected to benefit
• Work to be carried out over one year
The project will be executed by crews hired directly by the parish governments, with priority given to local workers. This approach is intended to support economic activity within the communities while improving infrastructure.
The roads play a critical role in ensuring access to the hydroelectric complex, allowing for timely response to operational needs and emergencies. They are also essential for daily travel, helping improve connectivity and safety for residents in northern Cuenca.
Elecaustro stated that the initiative is part of its broader commitment to communities located near its power plants, combining infrastructure work with social and environmental support.
The project also builds on an earlier contribution of $50,000 and reflects ongoing efforts to link energy operations with local development.
