City officials and market vendors have reached agreements to reduce informal street vending around El Arenal, following recent protests over the issue.

  • Meeting held April 14 with about 50 vendors
  • Controls to be increased inside and outside the market
  • Municipal Police and vendors to work jointly
  • Early-morning operations planned to recover public spaces

The meeting came days after merchants blocked Avenida de las Américas on April 9, calling attention to the growing presence of vendors operating outside the designated market area.

Officials say the new plan will focus on stronger enforcement, supported by coordination between municipal authorities and vendor groups. Joint commissions made up of vendors will also take part in monitoring and organizing activity.

The Citizen Guard confirmed it will carry out operations from early hours, working alongside Municipal Control and the EMOV mobility agency to restore order in surrounding streets.

Local vendors described the meeting as constructive, noting that it helped clarify responsibilities and outline steps to improve conditions both inside the market and in nearby public areas.

The effort aims to balance commercial activity with the need to keep public spaces accessible and organized.
