The Cuenca Symphony Orchestra will present a new concert this Friday, May 15, featuring works by Franz von Suppé, Carl Reinecke, and Ludwig van Beethoven.
The performance is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the General Auditorium of the University of Azuay and will be conducted by Andrea Vela, principal conductor of the orchestra.
Guest flutist Tatiana Dumas will appear as the evening’s soloist in a program centered on symphonic repertoire and flute performance.
The concert will open with the overture “Poet and Peasant” by Austrian composer Franz von Suppé, known for its lively orchestral style and strong melodic passages.
The program will also include the Cuenca premiere of Carl Reinecke’s Flute Concerto, a composition recognized for its lyrical character and technical complexity for the solo instrument.
The evening will conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, one of the composer’s most energetic and optimistic symphonic works.
Organizers expect the concert to bring together classical music audiences from across Cuenca for a program that combines romantic-era orchestral works with one of the best-known pieces in Beethoven’s symphonic catalog.
