Construction on the Monay-IESS interchange in Cuenca continues advancing, with officials expecting the first overpass in the Cuenca-to-Azogues direction to open in September if weather conditions remain favorable.

Authorities said underground infrastructure work has now reached 95 percent completion, while the overall project stands at 27 percent finished.

Crews are currently installing the final 12 beams for the structure and completing the first section of the bridge deck. Road paving work is still pending before the lane can open to traffic.

The project has already included major underground utility work involving electrical, water, and telecommunications networks. Construction teams have also completed berms, slope stabilization work, and retaining walls.

The Monay-IESS interchange project began in August 2025 and carries an investment of more than $43 million.

The construction schedule spans 24 months and is divided into two phases. The first phase focuses on the Cuenca-Azogues direction of the interchange.
