Administrative proceedings have been opened against three doctors at Vicente Corral Moscoso Hospital after they requested money for ambulance fuel from a patient’s family.
The case involves two contracted doctors and one permanent staff member. The request was made to the mother of a patient who needed to be transferred to Quito.
Hospital management confirmed that money was requested in this situation. It was explained that in urgent cases, staff may sometimes advance funds when immediate resources are not available, with the expectation that expenses are later reimbursed through official channels.
In this case, the funds were returned to the group that had helped cover the cost, using hospital petty cash.
Authorities indicated that the situation is being treated as an administrative issue. If irregularities are confirmed, the doctors could face penalties ranging from fines to possible dismissal.
A resolution in the case is expected by May 15.
