A new space designed for pets has opened outside Mariscal La Mar Airport in Cuenca, offering travelers and visitors a place where animals can rest and be cleaned before or after a trip.

The area, known as Pet Relief, is located next to the passenger arrival gate and covers roughly three by three square meters. It includes a covered structure with protective barriers to create a contained and comfortable environment.

• Located outside the arrivals area
• Equipped for cleaning, rest, and basic pet needs
• Built to serve travelers and visitors with animals

Inside, the space features artificial turf with drainage, a hose with soap for washing pets, a water bowl, paper towels, and pet waste bags. Three hooks allow owners to secure leashes briefly while attending to nearby tasks. A nearby signboard has also been set up for sharing information about pets available for adoption.

The project was completed in about a month and a half, with an investment of approximately $9,000. The facility responds to growing demand for pet-friendly infrastructure in transportation hubs.

The airport is also moving forward with additional upgrades. A recreational area is scheduled to open in May on the second floor near the food court, offering games for children and families. A chapel is also under construction and is expected to open in June.

Together, these improvements are part of ongoing efforts to expand services and improve the overall experience for passengers and their families.
