Traffic has resumed on the Cuenca–Molleturo–El Empalme highway after a major landslide forced its closure for several days.

The blockage occurred at kilometer 92 on April 16, when a large amount of debris covered about 50 meters of roadway, cutting off one of the main routes between Cuenca and Guayaquil.

Crews were sent to the site to clear the material, and passage was restored on Sunday, April 19.

  • Road reopened at kilometer 92
  • Landslide covered roughly 50 meters of roadway
  • Key route linking Cuenca and Guayaquil

Despite the reopening, conditions remain unstable in several sections. Authorities report partial access at kilometers 53, 92, and 96, along with caution zones at kilometers 49, 57, 85, and 91.

Drivers are being urged to proceed carefully due to ongoing rain, loose rocks, and water accumulation that may affect visibility and vehicle control.
