An armed robbery at a neighborhood store in Cuenca escalated when one of the suspects fired a weapon after a victim resisted.

According to those involved, a couple was inside the store when two men entered and demanded their belongings. The suspects took cell phones, but when one victim refused to hand over a device, one of the attackers pulled out a firearm and fired.
The shot hit the front door of the establishment. No injuries were reported.
The suspects fled on foot, and investigators believe a motorcycle may have been waiting nearby to aid their escape.
A security camera at the location was not functioning at the time, leaving no footage of the incident. Authorities recovered a spent bullet from the scene as part of the investigation.
Residents in the area say they have noticed an increase in suspicious activity, particularly involving individuals on motorcycles, and are calling for a stronger police presence.
