Authorities in Cuenca say the Tomebamba River remains in normal condition following public concern over an unusual bluish tint observed earlier this week.
Residents reported the change in water color on Friday morning, prompting a response from Etapa EP, which carried out a technical inspection along multiple sections of the river.
According to the agency, the analysis found no evidence of contamination or irregularities outside standard parameters. Officials said water quality remains within expected levels and does not pose a risk based on current findings.
As part of the inspection, teams also reviewed discharge points flowing into the river. No signs of pollutants or harmful substances were detected during those checks, the agency reported.
The temporary discoloration had raised concerns among residents, particularly given recent weather events and environmental sensitivity in the region. However, authorities emphasized that the river’s condition is stable.
Etapa EP said it will continue its routine monitoring of water resources to ensure any changes are quickly identified and addressed. The agency noted that ongoing surveillance is part of its broader strategy to safeguard Cuenca’s water systems and maintain public confidence.
Officials did not indicate a specific cause for the bluish appearance but reiterated that current data shows no impact on overall water quality.
