A man was arrested in Cuenca following an investigation into the extortion kidnapping of two individuals, in a case that involved a ransom payment and a coordinated police operation.
The investigation began after a complaint revealed that two people had been kidnapped and that their relatives paid a significant sum of money to secure their release. After receiving the payment, the victims were abandoned in an area of the city.
Authorities carried out investigative work that led to the identification and arrest of a suspect during an operation involving specialized units and tactical teams. The man was identified as Luis SZ, a 33-year-old Ecuadorian.
During the arrest, officers seized a cell phone that is now part of the evidence in the case.
Prosecutors filed charges for the alleged crime of extortion kidnapping. A judge later ruled the arrest lawful and ordered pretrial detention, along with a 30-day investigation period.
The suspect was transferred to the Azuay No. 1 Detention Center, known as Turi Prison, where he will remain while the case proceeds.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence related to the incident.
