Several streets across Cuenca will be closed this weekend as the city hosts a student parade, a major running event, and Palm Sunday activities, all expected to impact traffic in different areas.
On Saturday, March 28, road restrictions will be in place from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. along Simón Bolívar Street. The closure runs between Manuel Vega Street in the San Blas neighborhood and Benigno Malo Street near Calderón Park. The disruption is tied to a student parade marking the 70th anniversary of the Doce de Abril School.
Two additional closures are scheduled for Sunday, March 29.
The first will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the Warmi Runner 2026 race. The route includes several major roads:
- Florencia Astudillo Street
- Federico Malo Street
- 12 de Abril Avenue
- El Vado Bridge
- La Condamine Street
- Calle Larga
- Huayna Cápac Avenue
- Return along 12 de Abril Avenue to Parque de la Madre
Later that morning, from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m., short-term closures will be in effect for Palm Sunday events near the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Affected streets include:
- Luis Cordero and Mariscal Sucre near the Old Cathedral
- Simón Bolívar and Benigno Malo near the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Traffic officials will be stationed throughout the affected areas to redirect vehicles and manage flow during each event.
