A deadly crash on the Cuenca–Molleturo highway left at least 11 people dead after a bus lost control and plunged into a ravine.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon when the bus reportedly veered off the road and fell into a ravine. The vehicle then caught fire, complicating rescue efforts.

Emergency crews were dispatched immediately after the alert was received through the 911 system. Firefighters, medical teams, and rescue personnel responded to the scene to assist victims and contain the situation.

Authorities confirmed 11 fatalities, while the number of injured remains unclear as response efforts continue.

Teams from the Cuenca Fire Department, public health services, the Social Security Institute, and the Red Cross were all involved in the operation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
